Bilberry is a powerful antioxidant that strengthens veins and arteries. It has been helpful with many different diseases of the eyes as well as being nourishing to the pancreas and lungs.

Internal uses: Bilberry is widely used as a possible preventive treatment for complications of diabetes because of its ability to balance the blood sugars. It has been helpful in vascular retinal disturbances, cataracts, myopia, and all forms of eye strain. Research, done mostly in Italy, has also uncovered Bilberry's potential for treating retinal problems from poor blood circulation, diabetes-caused glaucoma, and day blindness. It has also been helpful for varicose veins. It has also shown to be antispasmodic and sedative to the central nervous system. Bilberry also improves night vision, strengthens capillaries, and reduces blood clotting. Other benefits: stimulation of peripheral circulation; inhibition of platelet aggregation (possible use in the prevention of thromboses); control and prevention of retinal hemorrhaging during long-term anticoagulant therapy; for brain circulation disorders; kidney hematuria; bleeding gums, and macular degeneration.
